The face mask has accompanied us for more than a year. From the beginning of the Covid-2019, the medical personnel constantly emphasize must be a qualified disposable mask to provide adequate protection. However, there is still legal production and selling a disposable mask. These low-quality face masks will not only be exposed to high-risk environments, but also contain toxic substances, once inhaled the human body, or cause long-term toxic injury.
Recently, Professor Michael Braungart from the Hamburg Environment Institute has tested some low-quality face masks that caused the wearer’s burst rash and found that these masks were formaldehyde and other chemicals.
He said: “We found formaldehyde, even carcinogenic beaniline, and note that unknown artificial spices to cover up any unpleasant chemical odor in the face mask.”
Dr. Dieter Sedlak from Ogsburg Modern Test Services Company also detected formaldehyde in the low-quality face mask, which is still more than, and he also discovered fluorocarbon. Carbon fluorine fluorocarbons are toxic to humans, and scientists have recently called forbidden to use them for non-necessitated use.
“Frankly, I didn’t expect to find PFC in the surgical face mask, but we used special conventional methods in the laboratory to easily detect these chemicals and immediately identify them. This is a big problem,” Dr. Sedlak said.
Both scholars said that their work is not enough to prove that all surgical masks sold in the city are unqualified, but they think people need to be more cautious about the ways and sources of masks.
In May last year, a British nurse with an occupational air propagation allergic contact dermatitis caused by formaldehyde (release agents) and isothiazolinone recurred during the work. After the detection, it was confirmed by a face mask. Although the long-term use of the mask does result in irritating basic dermatitis. However, in the detection of the nurse, the patch test showed contacted with an aldehyde (release agent) in some cases. Chemical analysis can be confirmed that there are traces of free formaldehyde in these masks, which is a by-product of polypropylene degradation.
Today, you can buy a variety of channels for disposable masks, and sometimes you can even buy a face mask in the small selling department. Although it is impossible to confirm that there is a harmful substance in these masks, the more secure way is to purchase the disposable mask with a brand from the pharmacy, Amazon, etc. to protect the safety of themselves and their families.
